blue gum

Either of two Australian trees: Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) of the myrtle family, with bluish bark, a chief source of eucalyptus oil; or the tall, straight Sydney blue gum (E. saligna). The former is widely cultivated in California and has also been planted in South America, India, parts of Africa, and southern Europe.
