board of directors| Group of directors elected by shareholders at the annual general meeting of the company to supervise the running of the company. The executive directors are managers of the company, working full time and with salaries paid by the company. Non-executive directors have no management position and are likely to look after the affairs of the company on a part-time basis. |

| As the day for the opening of the Exposition drew near, the Board of Directors began preparing the programme for the opening exercises. The capital was furnished by himself he, in fact, constituted the company; for, though he had a board of directors, they were merely nominal; the whole business was conducted on his plans and with his resources, but he preferred to do so under the imposing and formidable aspect of a corporation, rather than in his individual name, and his policy was sagacious and effective.
