booklouse

Any of numerous species of tiny wingless insects of the order Psocoptera, especially Atropus pulsatoria, which lives in books and papers, feeding on starches and moulds.

Most of the other species live in bark, leaves, and lichens. They thrive in dark, damp conditions.
