Small trees such as guavas and bottlebrushes produce heavy shade under which no plant can grow. A group of plants closely related to bottlebrushes are the melaleucas. The lemon bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus) is named for the musky citrus scent produced by its leaves and peeling bark, but it is far more famous for the brilliant scarlet bottlebrushes that adorn it each spring and fall. |
