Bourg (-en-Bresse)

Capital of the French département of Ain, on the River Reyssouze, 75 km/47 mi west of Geneva; population (1990) 43,000. There is trade in horses, cattle, poultry, grains, and copper goods. The suburb of Brou has a 16th-century church, containing royal tombs and stained glass.

Bourg-en-Bresse was the former capital of Bresse.
