Brent

Outer borough of northwest Greater London. It includes the suburbs of Wembley and Willesden.

Features

Wembley Stadium (1923); the Kilburn State Cinema (1937), the largest cinema in Europe when built; Brent Cross shopping centre (1976), first regional shopping centre in Europe; Neasden Temple (1995), the largest Hindu temple outside India; Wembley Conference and Exhibition Centre (1977, extended 1987); the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn.

Population

(2001) 263,500

Neasden Temple was built with nearly 2,000 tons of Italian marble and 3,000 tons of Bulgarian limestone. The Wembley Conference and Exhibition centre has conference facilities for up to 11,000 delegates. Kensal Rise Library was opened in 1900 by US writer Mark Twain.
