Brigantine

City in southeastern New Jersey, on Brigantine Island, across Absecon Inlet from Atlantic City; population (1990) 11,400. Tourists are drawn by its beaches. It has a rehabilitation centre for injured porpoises and other marine creatures.

The Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge covers 15,000 ha/37,000 acres on islands and mainland north of the city.
