bream

Deep-bodied, flattened fish Abramis brama of the carp family, growing to about 50 cm/1.6 ft, typically found in lowland rivers across Europe.

The name bream is also applied to porgies, small-mouthed, deep-bodied marine fishes of the family Sparidae. The pinfish bream Lagodon rhomboides is found from Cape Cod south to the Gulf of Mexico. Several members of the North American sunfish family are also popularly referred to as bream.
