broach spire

In architecture, a form of spire chiefly used in English Gothic churches of the 13th and 14th centuries, especially in Northamptonshire. A broach spire is an octagonal spire which rises from a square tower without a parapet, the ‘broaches’ being the half-pyramids joining the square to the base of the octagon.
