brown ring test

    0.06 sec.

brown ring test

In analytical chemistry, a test for the presence of nitrates.

To an aqueous solution containing the test substance is added iron(II) sulphate. Concentrated sulphuric acid is then carefully poured down the inside wall of the test tube so that it forms a distinct layer at the bottom. The formation of a brown colour at the boundary between the two layers indicates the presence of nitrate.
