Samson (lived 11th century BC)

In the Old Testament, a hero of Israel. He was renowned for exploits of strength against the Philistines, which ended when his lover Delilah had his hair, the source of his strength, cut off, as told in the Book of Judges.

Samson

Oratorio by Handel, whose libretto by Hamilton is based on Milton's ‘Samson Agonistes’. It was first produced at Covent Garden, London, in 18 February 1743.
