bucolic

Synonym for pastoral poem. Bucolics is assumed to have been the title that Virgil originally gave to his pastoral poems. Theocritus wrote a collection of bucolics, full of the simple charms of country life. Ronsard gathered his eclogues together under the title Les Bucoliques, but otherwise the term has not been used by modern poets.
