buona figliuola, La

(Also La Cecchina) opera by Niccolò Piccinni (libretto by Carlo Goldoni, based on Samuel Richardson's Pamela), first produced at the Teatro delle Dame, Rome, Italy, on 6 February 1760. The story tells how the Marchese della Conchiglia loves Cecchina, but his sister opposes their marriage because Cecchina is of a lower social class. Problems are resolved when the humble maid is revealed to be the daughter of a baron.
