burbero di buon cuore, Il

Opera by Vicente Martín y Soler (libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, based on Carlo Goldoni's French comedy Le Bourru bienfaisant), first produced at the Burgtheater, Vienna, Austria, on 4 January 1786. Mozart wrote two extra arias for its revival in Vienna on 9 November 1789, and Haydn composed an additional duet for its production in London, England, in 1794. The plot concerns the bachelor Ferramondo in a complication with his bankrupt nephew and comely niece.
