Wahoo

Town and admininistrative headquarters of Saunders County, east-central Nebraska; population (1990) 3,700. It is located 54 km/34 mi west of Omaha. Founded in 1865, it is a trading and processing centre for a grain and dairy farming region. Its light industries include the manufacture of building products.

The town was the birthplace of baseball player ‘Wahoo Sam’ Crawford (1880–1968), composer Howard Hanson (1896–1981), and movie industry titan Darryl F Zanuck (1902–79).
