bush pig

Wild pig found in forested regions of Africa. Typically it is dark brown in colour, about 60 cm/24 in high and has short tusks no more than 15 cm/6 in long.

The red river hog is a West African variety of the same species but is rusty red in colour with prominent black and white markings on the face.

Classification

The bush pig Potamochoerus porcus is in family Suidae, order Artiodactyla.
