buy-back
(redirected from buy-backs)

    0.06 sec.

buy-back

Company's purchase of its own shares, usually in the open market. A buy-back may be motivated by a desire to increase the share price by reducing the number of shares in circulation. It may also be intended to remove control from, or to reduce the influence of, a particular group of shareholders.

The term buy-back is also used when a company buys its shares back from a venture capitalist or another party who invested at an early stage in the company's development.
