calcification

In medicine, the deposition of calcium salts in bone cells as part of the growth process. Bone is comprised of fibrous tissue and a matrix containing calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate. Bones grow in thickness from the fibrous tissue and the calcium salts deposited in their cells by calcification.
