calibration

The preparation of a usable scale on a measuring instrument. A mercury thermometer, for example, can be calibrated with a Celsius scale by noting the heights of the mercury column at two standard temperatures – the freezing point (0°C) and boiling point (100°C) of water – and dividing the distance between them into 100 equal parts and continuing these divisions above and below.

calibration

In computing, the process of ensuring that a device, such as a monitor or touch screen, is set up correctly. A monitor should display colours accurately and a touch screen relay precise user movements.
