Capiz

Province of Panay Island in the Philippines; area 2,635 sq km/1,017 sq mi; population (1995) 624,000. The capital is Roxas. Sugar and rice are cultivated and, to a lesser extent, tobacco, cacao, and Indian corn. There is some copper mining, and copra and canned fish are exported; the fisheries of Capiz are also important.
