To explore further the molecular mechanisms of transplacental arsenic hepatocarcinogenesis, we conducted a second arsenic transplacental carcinogenesis study and used a genomewide microarray in profile arsenic-induced aberrant gene expression more extensively.
Harris, chief of the Human Carcinogenesis Laboratory at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md.
The research, published in the journal Carcinogenesis, was conducted with pregnant mice and revealed that a chemical found in Sauerkraut - Indole-3-carbinol - gave their offspring noticeable protection against leukemia and lymphoma at a young age, and against lung cancer later in life.
