Carpi

Town in Emilia-Romagna region, northern Italy, 16 km/10 mi northeast of Modena; population (2001) 61,500. Industries include hosiery and shirtmaking. There is a 16th-century Romanesque cathedral by Baldassare Peruzzi, and an ancient castle containing a small museum.
