CENTO

Abbreviation for Central Treaty Organization.

cento

Literary work consisting of passages from other writings. Composition of centos was a popular literary exercise in Roman times; in particular, Virgil's Aeneid formed the basis of several centos, including Decimus Magnus Ausonius's Cento nuptialis – a highly explicit account of the consummation of a marriage – and Capitulus's attack on the immorality and luxury of monasteries, written in 1535.
