Chandler

City in Maricopa County, south-central Arizona, USA, in the Salt River Valley, 27 km/17 mi southeast of Phoenix; population (2000) 176,600. A primarily residential suburb of Phoenix, it is also a winter resort and processing centre in an irrigated farming and ranching area. The city has grown rapidly since the 1970s, largely because of new research and technology facilities. Among its manufactures are computer components, mobile homes, and fertilizer.

The sunny winter climate, the Gila Indian Reservation (to the west), and golf resorts attract visitors.
