One of the symbols that can be represented on a computer. Characters include letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation marks, and special symbols.

A person in a book or play, usually but not always fictional. It is usual to refer to the ‘characters’ rather than the ‘people’ created by novelists, poets, or playwrights. Characterization is the description of characters.
