chlorinated solvent

Any liquid organic compound that contains chlorine atoms, often two or more. These compounds are very effective solvents for fats and greases, but many have toxic properties.

They include trichloromethane (chloroform, CHCl3), tetrachloromethane (carbon tetrachloride, CCl4), and trichloroethene (CH2ClCHCl2).
