iguana

The common iguana lives mainly in trees but is an excellent swimmer. It has a characteristic crest of comblike spines running down the length of its back. Young animals are bright green, becoming darker with age.

Any of about 700 species of lizard, chiefly found in the Americas. The common iguana (I. iguana) of Central and South America is a vegetarian and may reach 2 m/6 ft in length. (Especially genus Iguana, family Iguanidae.)
