cigaretteThin paper tube stuffed with shredded tobacco for smoking, now usually plugged with a filter. The first cigarettes were the papelitos smoked in South America about 1750. The idea was pushed by local high school students who collected cigarette butts, petitioned the community and educated City Hall policy-makers on the dangers of secondhand smoke. The California Water Resources Control Board and the public relations firm Rogers & Associates have launched "Erase the Waste," a two-year, $5 million campaign to get people to put their cigarette butts in the trash and clean up after their dogs. |
