clitorisIn anatomy, part of the female reproductive system. The glans of the clitoris is visible externally. It connects to a pyramid-shaped pad of erectile tissue. Attached to this are two ‘arms’ that extend backwards into the body towards the anus and are approximately 9 cm/3.5 in in length. Between these arms are the clitoral bulbs, lying one on each side of the vaginal cavity. During sexual intercourse the clitoris swells and stimulation of it results in orgasm. In its swollen state it presses on the urethra and closes it preventing harmful bacteria from entering the bladder. How to thank TFD for its existence? The blade represents the institution of patriarchy, and though it actually cuts - severs - the trees' bodies, much like those blades which remove women's clitorises, the hands that hold it, that maintain it are themselves trees, women who are gears in the political machinery of patriarchy. Ecdysiasm, 1992, describes the impulse to disrobe in public, using overlapping images of aberrant enlarged labia and phalliform clitorises. |
