The coati Nasua nasua is about 60 cm/24 in long, and has a tail of about the same length. It feeds on insects, fruit, and small vertebrates. Coatis live in groups of 30 or more, consisting of females and young; males live apart from the pack, and may only join a group for a short time during the mating season.

A coati feeds on the forest floor. Coatis are carnivorous mammals found in the forests of South and Central America where they forage for insects, fruit, and small mammals. Related to the racoon, coatis have panda-like eye markings, ringed tails, and a white-tipped black snout; the colour of their fur varies from deep brown to yellow.

Any of several species of carnivores of the genus Nasua, in the same family, Procyonidae, as the raccoons. A coati is a good climber and has long claws, a long tail, a good sense of smell, and a long, flexible piglike snout used for digging. Coatis live in packs in the forests of South and Central America.
