The Guyanan cock-of-the-rock lives in forested ravines in northern South America. The brightly coloured males clear an area of ground and use it as a communal display ground, spreading wings, tail, and crest to attract mates.
| South American bird of the genus Rupicola. It belongs to the family Cotingidae, which also includes the cotingas and umbrella birds. There are two species: R. peruviana, the Andean cock-of-the-rock, and R. rupicola, the Guyanan cock-of-the-rock. The male has brilliant orange plumage including the head crest, the female is a duller brown. Males display at a communal breeding area. |
