commemoration

In the Free Church, the belief that the Eucharist (Holy Communion) is purely a memorial to the Last Supper, which Jesus ate with his disciples, rather than a re-offering or re-enactment of Jesus' sacrifice. The bread and wine serve as reminders of what Jesus did, and the emphasis is on fellowship. Through Holy Communion, Christians of the Free Church feel close to Jesus and each other. The bread and wine are placed on a plain table and the wine may be taken from small individual cups. Baptists usually wait and eat and drink together as a sign of Christian fellowship.
