City in Los Angeles County, southwestern California, USA, 13 km/8 mi east of Los Angeles; population (1990) 12,100. A rail and road transportation hub and shipping centre, Commerce also produces chemicals and telephones, and has made automobiles.

Commerce's population is predominantly Hispanic.

City in Hunt County, northeastern Texas, USA, 98 km/61 mi northeast of Dallas; population (1990) 6,800. Commerce is an agricultural processing and shipping centre with some light industry.

It is home to East Texas State University (1889).
