Any oriental evergreen shrub with roselike flowers belonging to the tea family. Many species, including Camellia japonica and C. reticulata, have been introduced into Europe, the USA, and Australia; they are widely cultivated as ornamental shrubs. (Genus Camellia, family Theaceae.)
