composite function

In mathematics, a function made up of two or more other functions carried out in sequence, usually denoted by ∗, as in the relation (f ∗ g) x = f [g(x)].

Usually, composition is not commutative: (f ∗ g) is not necessarily the same as (g ∗ f).
