conditions of service

Also found in: Acronyms 0.09 sec.

conditions of service

Regulations which set out the rights and obligations of the employee. They are issued by employers and have to be accepted by employees. Conditions of service, for example, may lay down the rate of pay, how often the worker will be paid, and holiday entitlement, as well as the hours of work, dress that is expected, and a requirement for punctuality. Negotiating conditions of service, including pay, is arguably the most important function of a trade union in a place of work.
