conglomerate

In geology, a type of sedimentary rock composed of rounded fragments ranging in size from pebbles to boulders, cemented together in a finer sand or clay material.

A bed (layer) of conglomerate is often associated with a break in a sequence of rock beds (known as an unconformity), where it marks the advance in the past of the sea over an older eroded landscape.

conglomerate

A business enterprise comprising subsidiaries operating in non-related markets. A conglomerate merger is a merger between two companies which produce unrelated products.
