consortium

Alliance between companies for the purpose of undertaking a specific task. Major construction projects are often tendered for by companies acting in a consortium. A consortium may be formed because each company offers expertise in a different field, or to allow companies to pool finances for that particular project, or as a means of risk sharing.

Zalewski is Interim Program Director for the University of Wisconsin System Consortial Doctor of Physical Therapy programs at the UW--Milwaukee campus and currently researches the impact of aerobic activity on the lives of adults with disabilities caused by stroke or brain injury.
The real news in this consortial project was that at least some colleges are beginning to take hold in this line.
A similar consortial purchasing initiative in Scotland has led to the establishment of the NHS Glasgow e-Library (Davies & Wales, 2001).
