Any commodity for personal use that has a long life, such as furniture and electrical goods, as opposed to food and drink, which are consumables and have to be replaced frequently. Consumer durables are infrequently purchased and tend to be more expensive than consumables. Televisions, hi-fis, washing machines, dishwashers, and beds are all examples of consumer durables.
