corporate citizenship

Broad term used to describe the corporation's role in society and its impact on its stakeholders including customers, shareholders, employees, and communities where the business operates. Corporate citizenship covers such issues as corporate social responsibility and business ethics. The concept has become increasingly important as a weight of research suggests that responsible business attitudes, policies, and practices have a beneficial effect on the bottom line of a business. The Journal of Corporate Citizenship provides an in-depth academic perspective on the subject.
