corrasion) Granite cliffs alongside deep fjord waters in Norway. The hard granite was carved out by powerful glaciers. Today, due to the warming influence of the Gulf Stream and the salt content of the water, the Norwegian fjords are ice-free all year. Grinding away of solid rock surfaces by particles carried by water, ice, and wind. It is generally held to be the most significant form of erosion in rivers. As the eroding particles are carried along they are eroded themselves (becoming rounder and smaller) due to the process of attrition. |
