cramp ring

In Britain, in the 11th to 16th centuries, a ring worn to ward off attacks of cramp. Rings blessed by the sovereign on Good Friday, made of gold and silver coins offered by him, were supposed to cure cramp, scrofula (‘the king's evil’), and epilepsy.
