geranium

Or cranesbill, plant of the genus Geranium, family Geraniaceae, which contains about 400 species. The plants are named after the long, beaklike process attached to the seed vessels.

When ripe, this splits into coiling spirals, which jerk the seeds out, assisting in their distribution.
