Opera by Giacomo Meyerbeer (libretto by Giacomo Rossi), first produced at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Italy, on 7 March 1824. The story tells how the crusader Armando, disguised as Elmireno, has secretly married the sultan's daughter, Palmide. In a struggle between Islam and Christianity, Sultan Aladino eventually allows Palmide to accompany Armando to Europe after the crusader saves Aladino's life.
