Type of account at a bank where money is deposited for transactions rather than savings purposes. Little or no interest is given but the customer is offered a chequebook, cheque card, and standing order and direct-debit facilities. Typically, a worker will be paid directly into a current account and over the month gradually spend the money. Overdraft facilities are offered on a current account.
