custard apple

Any of numerous, primarily tropical trees and shrubs of the family Annonaceae. Several are cultivated for their large, edible, heart-shaped fruits. The pawpaw Annona simina triloba of the eastern USA, and the pond-apple A. glabra of the West Indies are representatives.
