In computing, keyboard combination or icon that activates a procedure otherwise available only through pull-down menus and dialog boxes. Most commercial software comes with built-in keyboard shortcuts and pushbuttons, and many allow users to create their own custom shortcuts. In Microsoft Windows, a shortcut is an icon that launches a program direct from the desktop.
