d'Estournelles, Paul Henri Benjamin Balleut de Constant, Baron (1852–1924)

French lawyer, diplomat, and politician. Baron d'Estournelles was the founder of the Association for National Conciliation in 1905 and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1909 with Belgian politician Auguste Beernaert for his services to the cause of international peace and goodwill.

He was a skilled arbitrator whose notable successes include the avoidance of confrontation between France and Britain in the 1893 Siam border dispute and numerous arbitrations and treaties involving Germany, Britain, and France.

Born in La Flèche, Sarthe, France, d'Estournelles received a licence in law in 1875. From 1876 he held a number of posts in the French diplomatic corps and the political establishment. His publications include La Rapprôchement Francoallemand (1909) and America and her Problems (1915). He worked with Andrew Carnegie towards peace and wrote Les Reparations: Les Ruines de Fargniers at la Donation Carnegie in 1922. He was awarded the title of Officer of the Legion of Honour in France.
