Annual herb native to Europe and Asia, and cultivated for its fleshy, pungent, edible root, which is usually reddish but sometimes white or black; it is eaten raw in salads. (Genus Raphanus sativus, family Cruciferae.)

Add daikon to one container and cabbage to the other, tossing to coat.
I expected the usual sour daikon radish taste, but this blood-red slice of pickled eggplant had something else in store.
Try this on a green salad with mixed baby greens, grated carrots, and daikon radish, or with white turnips, sprouts, and sliced almonds.
