A modern milking parlour in Wisconsin, USA. This type of parlour has a sunken central area that allows the farmer to apply the milking machine more easily.

Machine that uses suction to milk cows. The first milking machine was invented in the USA by L O Colvin in 1860. Later it was improved so that the suction was regularly released by a pulsating device, since it was found that continuous suction is harmful to cows.
